Advocacy Lead

Position Summary

Evergreen seeks a full-time Advocacy Lead to lead the organization’s engagement with Capitol Hill and support policy development to build bold, justice-centered policies to decarbonize our economy and transition to an equitable 100% clean energy future. The primary responsibilities will include working with the policy team to develop and advocate for policy products to effectively tackle the climate crisis, based on our three pillars of standards, investments, and justice. This work will dovetail and enhance the clean energy standards, federal investments, and prioritization of environmental justice being pursued by the Biden Administration. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to environmental justice, strong interpersonal skills, knowledge of government, experience in legislation, policy research and analysis, a deep understanding of climate policy, and 2-4+ years experience working on federal climate policy or politics, ideally including Hill experience.

Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Develop and manage Evergreen’s strategic engagementand relationships with lawmakers in Congress and in the federal administration
  • Work alongside allied organizations to shape federal legislative and regulatory policy
  • Draft multipurpose policy content for advocacy, communications, and digital teams
  • Research existing and new legislation as it relates to Evergreen policy priorities
  • All New Venture Fund employees are required to keeptime sheets

Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Ability

  • Experience working in government, non-profit, or campaign setting is preferred
  • Experience working with or representing communities impacted by pollution
  • Passion for tackling the climate crisis, demonstrated commitment to environmental justice
  • Excellent research and writing skills
  • Ability to work independently, as well as within a team, under tight deadlines
  • Highly organized and attentive to detail
  • Self-motivated and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously and see them through to completion
  • Familiarity with federal climate policy and/or Hill experience is preferred
