Position Summary

Evergreen seeks a full-time email program manager to run Evergreen’s email and advocacy platform. Primary responsibilities will include setting up, testing, and publishing emails and landing pages, maintaining a database of subscribers and action takers, tracking and analyzing metrics, and developing A/B tests.

This role will help execute the transition of our email program from vendor management to in-house management, while maintaining existing templates, lists, and analytics. The email program manager may also assist with data analytics outside of the email program, and support content creation as needed.

The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of experience building and tracking emails, and will be comfortable maintaining critical data infrastructure inside complex digital platforms. Experience working in a political, policy, and/or advocacy setting is helpful.

Responsibilities and Tasks

    • Design, code, target, and test email templates and individual emails that compel and persuade our target audiences
    • Build and maintain email sequences
    • Code, test, and maintain landing pages and upsell flows in our CRM and on our website
    • Monitor and maintain subscriber list hygiene and deliverability
    • Build and maintain strategic subscriber segments
    • Maintain data tracking infrastructure (tags, source codes, custom fields, etc.)
    • Track and interpret data reports
    • Build and track A/B tests
    • Contribute to strategies for fundraising, list acquisition, engagement, and testing
    • Contribute to content creation (writing and graphics) for the email program
    • Maintain compliance with data privacy laws and 501(c)3 / (c)4 distinctions

Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Ability  

    • 3+ years of experience working with an email or direct marketing program
    • Familiar with online CRM/CMS/mass email platforms (ActionKit, Action Network, or EveryAction preferred)
    • Enthusiastic about learning new tools and platforms
    • Comfortable coding and troubleshooting HTML and CSS for both web and email
    • Experience running and optimizing A/B tests
    • A solid understanding of email and landing page design best practices
    • Up-to-date knowledge of email data privacy best practices
    • Adept at maintaining databases and manipulating spreadsheets

Bonus if you have:

    • Experience pulling and interpreting digital analytics reports (SQL experience helpful)
    • Experience with email writing for advocacy or fundraising
    • Experience with basic graphic design

First-Year Milestones

In your first 90 days you will have

    • Developed a strong understanding of Evergreen’s work, platforms, data best practices, and digital channels
    • Taken over the coding, testing, and sending of all emails
    • Taken over the coding, testing, and publishing of all landing pages
    • Audited existing autoresponders

In 6 months you will have:

    • Developed and tested fresh HTML templates for Evergreen’s main email types
    • Built new audience segments for Evergreen’s primary audience targets
    • Begun to execute and track an A/B testing plan
    • Built out targeted drip campaigns for all new acquisition streams

In 1 year you will have

    • Accumulated a years’ worth of email metrics to draw upon for new insights and initiatives
    • Participated in strategy development for testing, acquisition, and engagement on the email channel
    • Documented new email best practices and processes for Evergreen

Compensation and Benefits

Salary: $70,000 - 85,000 /year, commensurate with Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Ability as noted above
