IPCC Report is a Wake-Up Call: Congress Must Act Now on Bold Climate Investments In Reconciliation

Now Is Not the Time for Half Measures or Empty Promises, Democrats Must Take Immediate Climate Action

Following the release of the IPCC’s dire Climate Report today, which characterized the current state of the climate crisis as “code red for humanity,” Evergreen Action Executive Director Jamal Raad released the following statement:

“For too long, dire climate warnings like the ones in today’s IPCC report have been met with little more than hand-wringing and empty promises from world leaders. We must end that cycle now, starting right here in the U.S. by passing President Biden’s Build Back Better climate agenda.

“The IPCC report is an unmistakable wake-up call that Congress can’t wait any longer to pass bold climate action. The disturbing findings of this report emphasize the urgent and immediate need for Congress to deliver on their mandate for bold climate action with an ambitious reconciliation infrastructure package that will set America on course to create millions of good paying jobs in the clean energy economy and help avoid the worst impacts of the climate crisis. With each delay, lawmakers put more lives, jobs, homes and communities at risk of being lost to devastating climate disasters. Before our window of opportunity to mitigate irreparable damage to the planet slams shut, we need a reconciliation infrastructure package with the robust investments necessary to build a just and thriving clean energy future.

“We now have all the reports we need. We now need bold action by our leaders.”
