Meryem Karad

Meryem Karad

Meryem Karad is the states campaign director at Evergreen and has experience working on policy in the areas of environmental justice, climate, natural and historic resources, water and air quality, and clean energy transition. Prior to joining Evergreen, she served as the assistant secretary of natural and historic resources in Virginia Governor Ralph S. Northam's office. In this role, she supported policy development, legislation and executive action to make protect and conserve Virginia's natural and historic resources, as well as prioritizing Virginia's transition to a clean energy economy. Meryem also served in Governor Terry McAullife's Administration as a special assistant. She currently serves as a member of the Virginia Environmental Justice Council, and is an active trustee on the University of Virginia's IDEA Fund Board, working to advance DEI efforts. Meryem earned a B.A. in Political Philosophy, Policy and Law from the University of Virginia. She is a proud immigrant from Morocco who grew up in Virginia.
