Responding to President Biden’s remarks today calling for “transforming” the economy to run on clean energy in response to the crisis in Ukraine, Evergreen Action Executive Director Jamal Raad released the following statement:

“President Biden is right: a just transition to a clean energy economy is the best way to free Americans from a volatile fossil fuel market controlled by petro-dictators like Vladimir Putin. Deepening America’s dependence on oil and gas would only strengthen Putin’s hand and exacerbate the climate crisis that already threatens our national security. 

“President Biden called for a clean energy ‘transformation’ today; now it’s time for him to deliver. In order to tackle the climate crisis and neutralize Putin’s price hikes, the president and Congressional leadership must pass bold clean energy investments through reconciliation. In this moment of crises on multiple fronts, President Biden must engage Majority Leader Schumer to put reconciliation at the top of the agenda and deliver investments that will weaken Putin, create millions of clean energy jobs, and secure affordable clean energy for the American people.”
