Following Press Secretary Jen Psaki’s comments at today’s White House briefing on climate in the bipartisan infrastructure deal, Evergreen Action Executive Director Jamal Raad released the following statement:
“Let’s be clear: the bipartisan infrastructure deal is not a climate bill. To get anywhere close to living up to the president’s commitments on climate action we need strong provisions in the reconciliation bill that will build the infrastructure we need for our 100% clean energy future.
“There is a growing contingent of leaders in Congress—joined yesterday by Senate Budget Committee Chairman Bernie Sanders—who have made it clear that without meaningful climate action, there’s no deal on infrastructure. It’s time for Democrats to get to work on a reconciliation bill that meets this moment. With climate change-fueled heat waves hitting millions of Americans in the Pacific Northwest and throughout the country this week, there isn’t any time left to waste.”
