Bipartisan Michigan Legislators Move to Advance Bill to Strengthen Grid Using Existing Energy Sources

Today, Michigan lawmakers moved to advance legislation to cut energy costs and improve reliability through strategic utilization of existing energy sources. The bipartisan legislation would establish “Virtual Power Plants” in the state, allowing customer-owned resources to coordinate during high periods of demand to support local electric grids. In response, Evergreen Action State Advocacy Director Courtney Brady released the following statement:

“Leveraging existing energy sources is a smart, turnkey policy that can deliver real savings for Michigan families. By harnessing the resources people already have in their homes and businesses, we can bolster grid reliability and cut costs—without waiting years for new power plants to come online. Making better use of existing energy sources is a common-sense, cost-effective strategy, but utilities must ensure these savings are passed directly on to customers. In our current energy affordability crisis, Michigan must continue to prioritize lowering costs by investing in clean energy, modernizing infrastructure, and curbing excessive utility profits to ensure a reliable and affordable energy future for Michigan for generations to come.”
