Climate Code Reds Plague The Nation, Yet Republicans Remain Committed to Climate Denialism

In response to the growing Canadian wildfire disasters and subsequent air pollution alerts popping up across The United States, Evergreen Action Executive Director Lena Moffitt released the following statement:

“Today, in the heart of our nation’s capitol, Republicans who sit in seats of power can look out the window and see the climate crisis with their own eyes, yet still deny the reality of climate change. From Michigan to New York more than 55 million people are under air pollution code red alerts because of fossil-fueled natural disasters. Despite the visible crisis threatening the health and safety of millions, Congressional Republicans remain committed to spewing climate denialism.

Just yesterday, House Republicans on the Energy and Commerce Committee held a hearing attacking the latest safeguards proposed by EPA under the Clean Air Act. And it doesn’t stop there! In the past couple of weeks, Republican leadership took aim at repealing the transformative climate, clean energy, and environmental justice investments from the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) during their debt bill negotiations.

“Conservatives touting the talking points of their fossil fuel donors have reached a new low. Denying the climate crisis and the impacts of climate change is not only myopic at this point, it’s a direct threat to the well-being of people across this country, especially to those already bearing the burden of pollution on the frontline. We have the tools readily available to us to make a more clean, secure, and prosperous future. The time for excuses is over.”
