Evergreen: BLM Must Put an End To Routine Flaring

In response to the Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) new draft Methane Waste Prevention Rule, Evergreen Action Chief of Staff Lena Moffitt released the following statement:

“Getting the climate crisis under control means ramping down the powerful climate super-pollutant methane—no ifs, ands, or buts. Right now Big Oil is perpetuating wasteful industry practices that abuse and waste a publicly owned good. BLM’s proposed Methane Waste Prevention rule is an important step forward, and a necessary one. After all, IPCC has repeatedly sounded the alarm on what failing to rein in methane pollution could do to our chances of keeping warming below catastrophic levels.

“The Biden administration should strengthen and finalize this rule, without delay. This includes going further to put an end to wasteful and dangerous routine flaring that pollutes our air and the climate, and harms frontline communities.”
