In response to Governor Mikie Sherrill’s Day one Executive Orders to tackle the dual challenges of affordability and energy deployment, Evergreen Action Vice President for States Justin Balik released the following statement:

“Governor Sherrill is hitting the ground running on day one to deliver on her campaign commitments. Her executive orders on energy are designed to make life easier for everyone in New Jersey with a smart combination of providing immediate relief for ratepayers and initiating necessary first steps to deliver systemic reforms for a lower-cost energy system. The governor is clear eyed about the root causes of this crisis: long term failures at PJM, a federal government standing in the way of clean energy, and broken utility models that don’t serve the people. And she is putting forward real solutions to enable more deployment of cheap, clean power without further burdening families that are already paying too much.

“It is refreshing to see a Governor not only correctly diagnose what’s wrong with our energy system, but also demonstrate the clear political will to fix it. In an era when Donald Trump is doing everything in his power to strangle the cheap clean energy we need to stabilize the grid, Governor Sherrill is showing the country that there’s a better way.”
