Evergreen's First Television Ad Highlights Independent Analysis Finding That Clean Electricity Payment Program Will Create Nearly 8 Million Jobs

Today, Evergreen Action launched a new six figure ad campaign on Washington D.C. cable calling on Congress to pass the Clean Electricity Payment Program (CEPP). The ad features the findings of a new independent analysis, commissioned by Evergreen and NRDC, that the program will expand the American workforce by nearly 8 million jobs and inject nearly a trillion dollars into the economy in the next decade.

Transcript:

A plan to create eight million new jobs.

Eight million.

Democrats, Independents and Republicans in small towns and big cities

Are all united in supporting the Clean Electricity Payment Program

That expands the workforce by eight million net new jobs across the country

And fuels clean energy innovation and a trillion dollars in new economic growth.

This is America’s Moment.

Call Congress to deliver the Clean Electricity Payment Program today.

For eight million jobs and a clean, thriving economy tomorrow.

“This is our moment to make history by passing CEPP and supercharging America’s clean energy economic recovery,” said Evergreen Action Executive Director Jamal Raad. “With CEPP, Congress can create almost 8 million jobs, inject nearly a trillion dollars into the economy, deliver clean air and get America on track to meet our climate goals. It’s a win-win-win: Congress must pass the Build Back Better Act with a strong CEPP and the full suite of critical climate investments.”

CEPP is a federal investment program that helps to transform the electricity sector over the coming decade, toward 80% clean electricity by 2030, on the path to 100% clean power by 2035. The program would deploy a carrot and stick approach, with federal investments in electric utilities to incentivize growth in their clean energy portfolio paired with financial penalties to ensure that utilities don’t fall behind in their transition to carbon pollution-free power sources.

new report from the independent economics consulting firm Analysis Group, found that a robust CEPP that invests in the transition to 80% clean electricity by 2030 would deliver major benefits over the next decade, including:

  • Expanding the workforce by roughly 7.7 million jobs.

  • Injecting over $907 billion dollars into the U.S. economy.

  • Raising $154 billion in tax revenue for federal, state, and local governments.

  • Driving economic development through the construction of over 600 GW of new solar, wind and other clean energy projects.
