Evergreen Reminder: The Infrastructure Bill Alone Fails on Climate

Today, Evergreen Action Executive Director Jamal Raad released the following statement calling on Democratic Congressional leaders to deliver the reconciliation bill and the infrastructure bills together, as they’ve promised.

“Americans have clearly spoken that they want bold action on climate change. The infrastructure bill is not a climate bill. It doesn’t include any major provisions to cut carbon pollution and confront the climate crisis. Passing this bill without moving forward a major climate package in a reconciliation bill would be a massive failure by this Congress at this critical moment. The reconciliation bill must include a Clean Electricity Performance Program, clean energy tax credits and investments in environmental justice.

“By demanding a vote on the infrastructure bill next Monday, without a simultaneous path forward on the Build Back Better reconciliation bill, conservative Democrats are imperiling the entire Biden agenda. Dozens of members of Congress have already come forward and taken a stand for ‘No Climate, No Deal’. Americans are counting on Speaker Pelosi, Leader Schumer and the Democratic majorities in Congress to advance the full Biden agenda with robust investments in our clean energy future, and the time to deliver is now.”
