Evergreen: Warnock Victory is a Win for Federal Climate Action

In response to Senator Raphael Warnock’s re-election victory in tonight’s Georgia runoff, Evergreen Action Chief of Staff Lena Moffitt released the following statement:

“Tonight, Georgia voters re-elected a champion for clean energy jobs and environmental justice, Senator Raphael Warnock. In just his first two years in office, we’ve already seen Senator Warnock introduce legislation to champion American solar manufacturing and cast a crucial vote for the Inflation Reduction Act, the most significant investment in climate and clean energy in American history. Senator Warnock’s strong climate record no doubt inspired young voters, the demographic most likely to be concerned about climate change who turned out in record numbers in Georgia this election cycle. Warnock’s campaign placed Herschel Walker’s bizarre climate change positions front and center in the closing days, and Georgia voters rejected a climate-denying extremist. Tonight’s results show yet again that climate change is a winning issue.

“Without Georgia voters in 2021, President Biden’s climate ambitions would have faced impossible odds in the U.S. Senate. Senator Warnock’s victory tonight is a reminder that there’s more work to be done, and voters are ready for Democrats to take action. In the 118th Congress, as the 51st Democratic vote in the Senate, Senator Warnock will be crucial in confirming key climate appointments, ensuring agencies receive the funding they need to implement and enforce the Inflation Reduction Act, and boosting American clean manufacturing capacity. We look forward to his continued leadership.
