House Republicans Attempt to Redirect Funds From Disadvantaged Communities to Corporate Polluters

In anticipation of the House vote HR 1023, which would eliminate the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund and the Methane Emissions Reduction Program, Evergreen Action Campaigns Director Dani Hupper released the following statement:

“House Republicans want to eliminate one of our best tools for driving investment in pollution reduction and job creation in rural, low-income, and other underserved communities in order to pad corporate polluters' profits. This wouldn’t just be a dangerous backslide in hard-won climate progress, but a craven redistribution of wealth that would benefit the very fossil fuel CEOs who are responsible for accelerating the climate crisis. The American people have made their opinion clear: They overwhelmingly supported the methane fee and climate investments, including the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund. And an even larger majority of voters support making polluters pay for the climate damages they have caused. Today’s vote is damning evidence that MAGA Republicans are working for their fossil fuel donors instead of the constituents they were elected to serve.”
