Today, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer appointed Shaquila Myers to the Michigan Public Service Commission (PSC) following the departure of Commissioner Alessandra Carreon, who was recently selected to be the chief climate officer for the Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE). In response, Evergreen Action Midwest State Policy Deputy Director Courtney Brady released the following statement:
“Commissioner Carreon has been a powerful advocate for clean, affordable energy in Michigan, and we’re excited to see her bring that same focus to her new role. Her leadership has helped shape a more transparent, reliable, affordable, and cleaner energy system in the state, and that perspective will be essential as Michigan works to meet growing power demand and ramp up clean energy to cut costs and pollution.
“As Shaquila Myers steps into her new role at the MPSC, we’re hopeful she’ll carry that momentum forward. The Commission must stay focused on cutting energy costs, accelerating clean energy deployment, and holding utilities accountable to people—not profits. These next few years are pivotal. The PSC’s decisions will determine whether Michigan delivers on its promise of a clean, affordable, and equitable energy future.”
