In response to reporting on Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s letter to Senate colleagues stressing the significance of the bold climate investments in the reconciliation bill, Evergreen Action Executive Director Jamal Raad released the following statement:

“The analysis released by Leader Schumer today leaves no room for doubt: the historic climate and clean energy investments in the reconciliation package are make-or-break for meeting America’s pollution reduction goals. We must make these investments now to stave off the worst impacts of the climate crisis, and to create millions of good jobs building a just and thriving clean energy economy.

“Voters across the country elected Democrats on an ambitious platform for climate, jobs and justice. The reconciliation bill is the most significant legislative opportunity to deliver on that agenda that Democrats have had in over 10 years—and the stakes are too high to risk any delay. We applaud Leader Schumer for prioritizing meaningful climate action and reiterating the importance of passing the reconciliation bill. To fulfill their commitments to the American people, Congressional Democrats and President Biden must protect, expand, and finally pass major climate investments in reconciliation.”
