New Light-Duty Car Standards Are Biden’s Biggest Win on Cutting Transportation Pollution Yet

In response to EPA finalizing the clean car standards for light-duty vehicles model year 2027 and beyond, Evergreen Action Vice President Craig Segall released the following statement:

“President Biden has taken enormous strides to ensure America leads the world in the transition to clean cars, and the new light-duty vehicle standards are his biggest step yet. Today’s announcement is a critical milestone on the path to a 100 percent clean vehicle future with pollution-free roadways for all.

“These standards will cover the passenger vehicles that make up the vast majority of cars on our roadways and drive a significant portion of the transportation pollution poisoning our air, especially in low-income neighborhoods and communities of color that tend to be closer to high-traffic areas.

“We have more work ahead to grow America’s electric vehicle industry and ensure auto workers reap the full benefits of this transition. But thanks to historic union victories last year and President Biden’s all-of-government action to power towards 100 percent clean cars, we’re well on our way to building the electric transportation future in America.”
