President Biden’s 2022 Budget Reflects Bold Vision on Climate and Economy

While Senate Republicans Continue to Offer Unserious Infrastructure Proposals, Biden Administration Lays the Groundwork to Support the Middle Class and Address Mounting Climate Crisis

Following the release of President Biden’s $6 trillion fiscal year 2022 budget proposal, Evergreen Action Executive Director Jamal Raad released the following statement:

“The American people elected Joe Biden to build back better, and this budget maps out how we begin to make that vision a reality. The administration’s $6 trillion proposal would fund the government at levels not seen since the New Deal era. It would also advance the goals of the American Jobs Plan by supporting clean energy deployment, eliminating billions of dollars in subsidies for corporate polluters, and prioritizing investment in communities overburdened by pollution and other structural inequities. This budget lays out a vision for the clean energy economy we need, but this vision cannot succeed unless Congress passes the American Jobs Plan with robust climate investments.

“Meanwhile, Republicans in Congress have offered nothing but paper-thin infrastructure proposals that completely exclude clean energy and offer mere chump change for many of the president’s key priorities, and have shown that they are unwilling and unable to confront the crises facing Americans. Instead, they are holding up the process of delivering a transformative economic recovery to the American people. Their plan would increase pollution, stall our economic recovery, and violate President Biden’s commitments to prioritize environmental justice and reduce America’s carbon emissions. Democrats should stop wasting time with bad-faith negotiations and move forward without delay to fulfill the president’s budget request and pass the full American Jobs Plan.
