States Fight Back as Trump Guts Emissions Standards

Today, President Donald Trump signed three resolutions targeting California’s nation-leading vehicle emissions standards. The move defies repeated guidance from the Government Accountability Office and the Senate parliamentarian on the role of the Congressional Review Act. Republicans in Congress have blindly supported Trump, taking performative steps to roll back the waiver. In response, Evergreen Action Senior Transportation Policy Lead Liya Rechtman released the following statement:

“Donald Trump’s move to sign away critical clean air protections is a disgraceful, overreaching handout to bad actor polluters and a direct attack on the states that have led the way in defending public health. This action doesn’t just weaken national air quality standards—it undercuts the rights of states to protect their communities from the worst impacts of pollution.

“But states aren’t backing down. The governors in the Affordable Clean Cars Coalition are already stepping up and California is filing litigation, proving that leaders across the country will fight back against this administration’s unprecedented power grabs. These governors are defending their state authority to cut pollution, protect American communities from pollution, expand access to affordable EVs, and support the workforce leading the transition to clean transportation. Evergreen is proud to stand alongside the Coalition and every state leader committed to leading the charge for clean air, safe transportation, and a future that polluters can’t buy.”
