n response to Governor Tony Evers’ re-election victory tonight in Wisconsin, Evergreen Action Communications Director Holly Burke released the following statement:
“Governor Evers’ victory tonight in Wisconsin is a clear signal that Wisconsin voters are ready for bold climate action. In one of the most competitive swing states in America, Governor Evers didn’t run from climate action—he leaned into it. This election shows that climate leadership is a political winner in Wisconsin. And, now, Governor Evers has the mandate to implement his climate plan.
“In his second term, the governor will have a historic opportunity to advance climate action through both state policy and strategic implementation of federal investments from the Inflation Reduction Act. That should start with continuing to advance his clean energy plan to fight climate change and grow Wisconsin’s economy by driving towards 100% clean electricity, lowering energy bills, and creating tens of thousands of new jobs.
“We congratulate the governor and his team and look forward to seeing the ways in which they continue to raise the bar on climate action and deliver for Wisconsinites. Onward!”
Earlier this year, Evergreen Action made a significant 6-figure ad buy on TV, digital, and OTT in the Madison, WI market. The ad, “Every Corner,” highlighted how Governor Tony Evers’ climate plan protects Wisconsinites from the impacts of climate change while lowering energy bills and growing the economy. Additionally, Evergreen and Data for Progress released polling that showed that two-thirds of Wisconsin voters support the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), and an even larger majority support Gov. Tony Evers and Wisconsin leaders aggressively pursuing federal clean energy investments from the newly passed law.
Governor Evers has a strong track record of supporting forward-looking climate and clean energy policies. In April, the governor released the Clean Wisconsin plan, the first-ever clean energy plan in Wisconsin history. The plan called for moving to 100% clean energy by 2050 and investments in the clean energy economy. His office also established an Office of Environmental Justice to help impacted and disadvantaged communities ‘prepare for and recover from the effects of climate change.”
