Today, Michigan House Republicans passed legislation to repeal the 2023 Clean Energy and Jobs Act (CEJA), a landmark clean energy package designed to create jobs, strengthen the grid, and lower energy costs for families. Last month, a new independent analysis from 5 Lakes Energy found that rolling back these policies would cost households nearly $5.6 billion in higher energy costs by 2050. In response, Evergreen Action State Advocacy Director Courtney Brady released the following statement:

“Michigan House Republicans just voted to gut one of the most effective energy laws the state has ever passed. Dismantling policies that are already helping diversify the state’s energy mix and stabilize prices is both counterproductive and misguided, serving only as a handout to the same special interests that have been hiking rates on Michigan households for years. Families across the state are already stretched thin, and they deserve better than politically motivated policy reversals that make their lives harder.

“The governor and the Senate should reject this approach and stand up for policies that ease financial strain on families while building a stronger, more dynamic workforce. Michigan has too much at stake to abandon a path that is already delivering real benefits.”
