Today, at New York Climate Week, Governor Kathy Hochul announced the second iteration of the Sustainable Future Program, the Energy Infrastructure Development Plan (EIDP) and the Clean, Highly Affordable, Reliable, Grid Expansion (CHARGE) Agenda. With greater control of the energy system, the initiatives will bring more clean, cheap energy online, deliver more reliable power to the grid to meet rising energy demand, and lower bills while also compensating New Yorkers who participate in solar, battery, and other clean energy programs.
In response to this nearly $1 billion of investments across the three programs, Evergreen Northeast & Mid-Atlantic Regional Director Catherine Zingg released the following statement:
“Today, Governor Hochul put the climate and affordability crises in her crosshairs and sent a strong message that New York’s future will be built on cleaner, cheaper energy. By taking more control of the energy system, establishing a statewide standard for new infrastructure that centers affordability instead of utility profits, and setting the course to compensate New Yorkers who participate in programs to bring energy to the grid, the Empire State is planning for a future with lower costs and cleaner power.
