Pennsylvania Democrats Secure Majority in State Senate, Clinching Blue Trifecta for First Time in Three Decades

Nov 4, 2026

Pennsylvania Democrats have secured a majority in the Pennsylvania State Senate the first time since 1993. That same year is also the last time Democrats held a blue trifecta in Pennsylvania with majorities in both chambers of the legislature and a Democratic Governor. In response to the new blue trifecta, Evergreen States Program Vice President Eric Miller released the following statement:

“Last night’s victories are a referendum on inaction. The State Senate has ground governing in Pennsylvania to a halt thanks to leadership more concerned with playing politics than delivering for commonwealth families. Now, that must change.

“House Democrats have passed a number of bills to protect ratepayers from paying Big Tech’s energy bills, reign in profits and corruption of utility companies, and expand clean, cheap energy in Pennsylvania, including Governor Shapiro’s GRID Initiative. All have stalled in the Senate.

“Pennsylvania voters spoke loudly and clearly at the polls that it is time to move beyond political point-scoring to deliver real results for those struggling to keep up with the rising cost of energy. We extend hard-earned congratulations to incoming Senators, and look forward to working with leadership in the State House and Senate to expand cheap, clean energy in Pennsylvania to tackle the affordability and climate crises.”
