In response to PJM announcing David E. Mills as its new President and CEO, Evergreen Action Director of Strategic Initiatives for States Julia Kortrey released the following statement:

“Incoming PJM President David Mills has his work cut out for him. After years of dysfunction  and failed leadership that have effectively blocked new generation from coming online over the last five years, PJM is in desperate need of a course correction. Because of this dysfunction, residents have been paying skyrocketing electricity bills while PJM members and monopoly utilities rake in record profits. President Mills has the opportunity to pursue real interconnection queue reforms that will get power online faster, combat rising prices, and ensure that the grid can withstand rising demand from data centers. We hope that new leadership can mean a new chapter for PJM, one in which the grid operator cooperates with demands from ratepayers and state officials across the region and stops standing in the way of the more affordable clean energy sources that can lower electricity bills.”

Last month Evergreen released Reopening Is Not Enough: Why PJM’s Interconnection Queue Still Needs Real Reform breaking down why PJM must address the structural problems that backed up the interconnection queue in the first place and detailing the steps PJM must take to stabilize the grid and protect consumers from rising costs.
