This afternoon, in addition to Trump’s EPA publishing its final rule attempting to allow coal and gas power plants to emit unlimited climate pollution, the agency also announced a supplemental proposal to strip the EPA of its own authority and the authority of future administrations to address power sector emissions. In response, Evergreen Action Executive Director Lena Moffitt released the following statement:
“If it wasn’t enough that Trump’s EPA is trying to destroy the safeguards that prevent power plants from spewing unlimited pollution into our air, now he’s trying to make that damage permanent. Trump is abusing his power to put his fossil fuel friends above the law, trying to rig the system so that no future president can ever reverse course. This is a deliberate attempt to lock families into higher costs and more climate pollution for decades to come. It’s clear this administration has no regard for Americans’ safety or security, as long as its wealthy allies can get richer. And families already struggling from high energy costs will be left to pay the price.”
Earlier today at a G20 gathering in Houston, the Trump administration rolled out its reversal of the Biden administration’s standards to limit carbon from dirty coal and gas plants. Find Evergreen’s statement about that announcement here.
