Schumer Is Getting a Reconciliation Bill Back on Track, But He Must See it Over the Finish Line

Mar 7, 2022

In response to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s “Dear Colleague” letter today regarding the revival of a reconciliation bill, Evergreen Action Executive Director Jamal Raad released the following statement:

“After over a year of delay, it’s encouraging to see Senate Majority Leader Schumer working to get a reconciliation bill with historic climate and clean energy investments back on track in Congress, but we need more urgency. With Senator Joe Manchin voicing his support for a climate package in a reconciliation bill, there is no reason for further delay. Leader Schumer must deliver a deal.

“Right now, in a moment of international crises, we are seeing the devastating consequences of our dependence on fossil fuels in real time. As Vladimir Putin draws on his fossil-fueled war chest to invade Ukraine, it’s clearer than ever that we must free ourselves from the volatility of an oil and gas economy. Turbocharging our transition to a just and clean energy economy will create millions of American jobs, lower energy costs, and take power away from petro-dictators like Putin. It’s not just a win-win solution, it’s our only real solution. This is our last, best chance to get it done: Majority Leader Schumer must secure a reconciliation bill with bold climate investments without delay.”
