Trump Prolongs Coal-Fired Con, Forcing Midwest Families to Foot the Bill While Fossil Fuel Profits Soar

In response to the news that the Trump administration has extended its previous order to force an aging Michigan coal plant to keep running, which has already cost ratepayers tens of millions in the three months it's been forced to run past its retirement date, Evergreen Action Deputy Director for the Midwest Region Courtney Brady released the following statement:

“Keeping a coal plant on life support past its retirement date has already cost ratepayers tens of millions of dollars. And every extra day it runs, working-class families are stuck with higher bills, dirtier air, and delays in building the clean energy projects that could actually deliver affordable, reliable power.

“As Donald Trump and Chris Wright prop up the expensive, dying coal industry, they’re setting up Midwestern ratepayers for more than $100 million in unnecessary costs—and billions nationwide if this becomes the playbook. Instead of protecting consumers, Trump is cooking the books, jacking up utility bills, and sabotaging the affordable, clean energy buildout Americans want and deserve.”
