In response to Senator Joe Manchin’s (D-WV) comments today laying out his support for legislation that includes major climate and clean energy investments, Evergreen Action Executive Director Jamal Raad released the following statement:
“With Senator Joe Manchin at the table and ready to strike a deal to pass a major climate investment bill, the ball is in Majority Leader Schumer’s court. It’s time for Senator Schumer and President Biden to strike a deal and get a significant climate bill across the finish line.
“The clean energy investments that were outlined in the Build Back Better Act (BBBA) are a major economic win for the American people that fulfill Senator Manchin’s requirement for full funding through the 10-year window. Massive investment in American-made clean energy is the best way to ensure energy security amidst a volatile global oil market driven by fossil-fueled dictators like Vladimir Putin.
“There is no excuse for further delay. After nearly a year of negotiations, now is the window of opportunity. Leader Schumer and President Biden must get this done.”
