Following the news that Democrats clinched decisive victories across the country and won a majority in the U.S. House of Representatives, Evergreen Action Executive Director Lena Moffitt released the following statement:
“Trump promised to cut energy bills in half. He didn’t, and tonight voters handed him and his party the bill instead. For nearly two years, Trump and Republicans have sabotaged clean energy and jacked up voters’ bills, saddled them with record-high gas prices, and repeatedly put Big Oil and Big Tech ahead of working families. From all corners of the nation, congressional candidates who prioritized energy affordability and clean energy won. And the party responsible for doubling down on fossil fuels and driving up the cost of living was shown the door.
“Americans want an energy agenda that puts them first. Across the country, Democrats ran on lowering energy bills, holding Big Tech accountable, and building out clean energy infrastructure to confront the climate crisis at our doorstep—and voters have given them a mandate to fight back. Our new elected leaders must fight for the bold policies that would make energy more affordable and unleash our clean energy potential.
“With Trump still in the White House, the road ahead won’t be easy. But Democrats’ decisive victory hands them the power to hold Trump and his Big Tech friends accountable for their corrupt energy agenda and broken promises to lower prices. Voters have made their demands clear. Come January, it’ll be time for the 120th Congress to deliver accountability and progress.”
