  • Michigan Voters Choose Lower Bills Over Utility Greed, Elect Jocelyn Benson

    Nov 4, 2026

In response to Jocelyn Benson’s victory in Michigan’s gubernatorial race, Evergreen Action Senior Regional Director Courtney Brady released the following statement:

“Michiganders went to the polls looking for relief from rising energy bills, and in Jocelyn Benson, they found a candidate with a plan to deliver it. She ran on the simple promise that corporate profits should never outweigh families’ ability to afford life’s basic necessities. Voters embraced that vision, and Michigan now has a governor-elect who will stand up to utility greed and put ratepayers first.

“Michigan’s monopoly utilities keep posting record profits while working families face higher bills, colder homes, and impossible choices. And the rapid growth of data centers threatens to drive costs even higher if households get stuck with the tab for the new power needed to serve them. Michigan doesn’t have to accept rising bills as the price of economic growth. By embracing cheaper, cleaner energy and making sure big energy users pay their own way, we can power the state’s future without asking Michiganders to foot the bill. We look forward to working with Governor-elect Benson to make that happen.”
