In response to the news that Democrats have swept the midterms and won a majority in both the U.S. Senate and the House of Representatives, Evergreen Action Executive Director Lena Moffitt released the following statement:

“This election was nothing short of a referendum on Trump and Republicans in Congress, and their disastrous energy agenda. American voters were loud and clear in their demands for a change in leadership—sending a blue wave to the Capitol and sweeping out the politicians who failed them. The Trump playbook is not working and they are tired of paying the steep price for his greedy policies that have put fossil fuel executives ahead of them time and time again.

“It’s not complicated: Americans want to be able to keep the lights on and get to work without breaking the bank. And they’re sick of politicians who are willing to let their Big Tech and Big Oil donors run roughshod over our air and our climate. Voters across the country elected candidates who have stood against utility price-gouging and the fossil fuel industry to call for a system that puts people over profits and lowers costs for Americans through cheap, clean energy.

“With Democrats at the helm of the next Congress, they must answer voters’ mandate and use every tool at their disposal to put a stop to Trump’s attacks on clean energy projects, build out clean energy, and cut costs and pollution in communities across the country. The climate crisis is not waiting, it’s time to get to work.”
