In response to PECO’s announcement that it is withdrawing its rate case in response to concerns over customer affordability, Evergreen Action Director of Strategic Initiatives for States Julia Kortrey released the following statement:
“This is what it looks like when state leaders stand up for ratepayers and fight utility greed. Governor Josh Shapiro has been a tireless advocate for lowering energy costs. His ongoing efforts to push utilities to prioritize affordability delivered a major win for Pennsylvanians today.
“Today’s announcement means that PECO’s 1.7 million customers will be spared yet another rate hike, but we know there’s more work to do to secure an affordable, stable grid for the long haul. And Governor Shapiro can’t do it all on his own. The State House has passed more than half a dozen bills to address energy affordability, and the Senate must act to get these bills to Gov. Shapiro’s desk. This includes Governor Shapiro’s Lighting Plan package to strengthen the grid and lower energy costs across the Commonwealth and a package of bills to ensure ratepayers are protected through Big Tech’s data center buildout.”
