Today, Evergreen Action announced that Pete Wyckoff is joining the organization as Vice President of Policy. In this role, Pete will lead the development of Evergreen’s federal and state policy agenda, drawing on his extensive expertise in shaping the Inflation Reduction Act during his time in the U.S. Senate and then implementing it on the ground as a senior official in Minnesota Governor Tim Walz’s administration.
“Pete brings a truly unique combination of skills to Evergreen,” said Evergreen Action Executive Director Lena Moffitt. “He was one of the architects of the most ambitious climate legislation ever passed in Congress, and then spent years doing the hard work of implementing it inside a state government. He knows how to navigate the federal policy apparatus to craft smart, ambitious policy, and he knows how to roll up his sleeves and work within states to get it done. That combination is exactly what Evergreen needs to supercharge our work on both fronts.”
“The climate crisis demands that we work across every level of government—building the right policy frameworks in Washington and making sure they deliver real results across the country,” said Evergreen Action Vice President of Policy Pete Wyckoff. “Evergreen is doing exactly that. As working families face higher and higher energy bills, now is the time to demonstrate to policymakers that climate policy and energy affordability go hand in hand. From Congress, to tribal governments, to state agencies, to utility boards, there’s a lot we can do to cut costs and pollution simultaneously. I’m thrilled to be joining the team to help drive that work forward wherever we can make progress. “
Wyckoff most recently served as Deputy Commissioner of Energy Resources at the Minnesota Department of Commerce, where he led the agency’s energy portfolio through a period of rapid expansion. Working closely with Governor Walz’s office and the Legislature, he helped bring billions in federal clean energy funds to the state and oversaw the rollout of programs funded by the Inflation Reduction Act and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. His work included implementing Minnesota’s “100% clean by 2040” electricity standard, launching the state’s green bank, and developing what became a nation-leading data center regulatory framework. He joined Commerce first as Assistant Commissioner of Federal and State Energy Initiatives before being elevated to Deputy Commissioner.
Prior to his time in state government, Wyckoff served as Senior Policy Advisor for Energy to U.S. Senator Tina Smith, where he played a pivotal role in developing the Inflation Reduction Act. He also worked for former U.S. Senator Al Franken and the U.S. Department of Energy. An environmental scientist by training, Pete is an emeritus professor at the University of Minnesota Morris.
