Impending departure of EPW Chair underscores need to protect historic climate legislation from GOP attacks

In response to Senator Tom Carper’s retirement announcement, Evergreen Action Co-Founder and Senior Advisor Jamal Raad released the following statement:

“Senator Carper has built a formidable climate legacy, defending America’s bedrock environmental laws from attack and delivering historic climate and clean energy investments in the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). His leadership will be missed in Washington, but his accomplishments will continue to shape America's clean energy future for years to come.

“With House Republicans threatening to repeal the IRA and scam the American people out of critical investments for the benefit of their fossil fuel donors, they are already working to chip away at the progress Senator Carper helped to build over the course of his decades-long legislative career. The GOP Default on America Act would eliminate critical programs Senator Carper helped to secure through his role as chair of the Environment and Public Works Committee that are essential to addressing environmental injustice and ensuring America leads the clean energy economy of the 21st century. Democrats must reject this reckless attempt to undermine our economy and our climate.”
