Advancing Clean Energy in Wisconsin

In 2019, Wisconsin set a goal for all electricity consumed in the state to be 100 percent carbon-free by 2050. Thanks to strong local leadership, Wisconsin is building its clean energy sector, creating jobs, investing billions in its clean energy plan, developing solar and batteries, and supporting climate-smart agriculture.
Key Goals For Wisconsin

Tackle rising energy costs with affordable, abundant clean energy

Defend against expensive gas build-out and promote cheap clean energy

  • A New Crop for Wisconsin Farmers

In growing pockets of rural America, where the landscape is a patchwork of generations-old farms and tight-knit communities, a new kind of crop is emerging: wind turbines and solar panels, increasingly becoming a savvy supplement to landowners’ yields.

Here, renewable energy leases on under-performing land are providing farmers with a stable income and generating tax revenue that’s reinvested directly in the community, supporting better schools and public services.

“We need to do a better job telling the story of the benefits that rural communities are accruing as a consequence of wind and solar projects and the types of investments that they’re able to make,” says Wisconsinite and farmer Scott Laeser.

    What's Happening Now

  • “States like Wisconsin have a critical opportunity and obligation to lead by rejecting bad fossil fuel investments. By embracing clean energy, states can deliver the reliable, affordable power people urgently need amid a growing cost of living crisis.”
